Our Mission

We here at Central wish to provide opportunities for junior and senior high students to worship, be in mission, fellowship with one another and continually learn what it means to be a disciple of Christ.  In addition, all Central students are encouraged to be an integral part of Sunday worship, using the gifts God has given them.

When Do We Meet?

Sunday School

Sunday School takes place at 9:45am on Sunday mornings.  It’s a time of fellowship and learning and all junior and senior high students are invited to attend.  Sunday School takes place on the second floor of the church.

Sunday Worship

Sunday worship takes place at 11:00am on Sunday mornings in the church sanctuary.  It is a time to gather and experience the presence of God.  The youth can often be found serving communion, singing in the choir, being acolytes and lay reading.  The youth also have the opportunity to lead the singing portion of worship on special ‘Youth Focused Sundays.’  All youth are invited and welcome!

Youth Gatherings

Youth Gathering takes place Sunday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  We usually explore a passage from the Bible, play a few games, hang out and have a snack.  If you are a junior or senior high student you are welcome!  We meet in the basement of the parish house which is connected to the main church building.

How Can You Serve Others?

As young Christian disciples we have been given a joyous call to serve others

Here are a few opportunities:

Communion Delivery

On the first Sunday of every month we have the privilege of serving communion to those members of our church community who are homebound, in assisted living facilities or rehabilitation facilities.  The opportunity to share this meal with those who cannot be at Central on Sunday is transformative and we would love for you to be able to take part as well!  On the first Sunday we stay after church and eat lunch before carpooling to the homes of those we will be visiting.  We usually leave around 12:45 and return to the church around 3.

Monthly Service Projects

Each month we have the opportunity to partner with mission organizations in the Roanoke Valley to share the love of Christ.  All junior and senior high students are welcome to participate.  Take a look at what we have going on this month:

April 21st – Day of Mission (More Information to Come!)

TGIF

Every Friday from 3:30pm to 4:00pm we have the opportunity to hand out drinks and prizes to the Andrew Lewis Middle School students who walk past our doors on the way to down town. We play games, talk and hang out and be in fellowship with the students.  If you would like to help out please contact us!

Project Spy Mission Trip 2012

This summer all junior and senior high students at Central will have the opportunity to participate in a weeklong mission experience, Project SPY in Christiansburg, VA.  Project Spy is a mission project of Fieldstone UMC.  The youth attended this trip last year and were able to help with many home repair projects.  You don’t have to be handy to come along, just willing to work and learn.  For more information please send an email to youth@central-umc.org and check of Project SPY’s website: http://www.project-spy.com/
