The Table Service

Table 1The Table Worship service is Central’s 9:00 am Sunday morning service – innovative, contemporary and family-friendly, it is held in the church’s Fellowship Hall – a space more conducive to the hands-on worship activities that involve the children (and sometimes the adults).  The service is intentionally focused on reaching the children, involving them in activities relevant to the day’s message.  Adults and children worship together in the same space, sitting in folding chairs that encircle the Table…the children stay for the entire service, working on a couple of projects during the more adult portion of sermon time.  Following the worship the children leave for some play time and the adults gather in small groups over a cup of coffee and a snack for fellowship and to talk about what they have just heard in the sermon and what that might mean for their lives.

The Table also refers to a hand-crafted communion table that folds up and is taken Table 4during the week to one of several community outreach.  It goes to the Salem dog park where doggie treats and bottled water are distributed; to the Salem Food Pantry/Clothes Closet where bagged lunches are handed out to the clients; to Kroger to collect canned soup and crackers generously donated by Kroger shoppers for Soup for Seniors; to a local laundromat where quarters, detergent, Table 3bottled water and snacks are shared and the praise band plays music; and you will see them other places around Salem.

We believe that worship is more than just attending a worship service once a week or so – it is how we live our lives.  At the Table Service, we are teaching our children just that – as they happily decorate lunch bags for the Food Pantry outreach project.Table 2
