My name is Kristin Holbrook, and I am the pastor of Central UMC. It is a joy to serve God at Central, and I do so with a firm belief that God is, all day long, working for good in the world. What an amazing blessing that God invites us, you and me, to join in this work of blessing the world!
My journey of discipleship has led me from Springfield, Missouri, where I spent the first 15 years of my life; to Richmond, Virginia, where I graduated from high school and then Virginia Commonwealth University; to Guatemala, where I coordinated United Methodist Volunteers in Mission teams and studied Spanish; to Wesley Seminary in Washington D.C.; to Hyattsville, Maryland, where I was a pastoral intern for three years; to Calvary UMC in Stuarts Draft, where I served as the Associate Pastor for four years; to Central UMC in July 2010. It has been a wonderful journey, and I have felt the presence of the Holy Spirit all along the way, guiding and molding me to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
People often ask me where my home is, and my answer is always this: my home is the Church. In all of the moving I have done, I have always felt the most at home among the family of God, in every country and every community where I have lived. The unique and wonderful thing about God’s family is that it is not exclusive: all are welcomed, all are included, all belong around God’s table! No matter where we come from, no matter where we find ourselves, we are included as members of God’s family.
This includes YOU!
I am convinced that God has great things in store for us as we join in God’s work of blessing the world. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This is no small feat; This is no self-centered focus; This is no survival strategy! We are a mission people, and God’s mission is the transformation of the world! Don’t you want to be a part of God’s changing the world? I do!
