PHYSICAL & MENTAL:

Ways to Improve Your Day in Five Minutes

Information taken from WebMD Feature by Jennifer Soong and Dr. Brunilda Nazario

ª Make your bed. This small ritual can help create a calm environment for you and give you one less thing to worry about for the rest of the day.

ª Pack a snack. Put fruit, nuts, or cheese in your leaving-the-house materials for when the munchies strike later. This will keep you from hitting the vending machine for chips or a candy bar later in the day.

ª Clear your desk/kitchen counter. Clutter can make your lose focus and make tasks harder to perform.

ª Pump up the music. Several studies have found that listening to your favorite music can help lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and boost mood.

ª Sniff a lemon. Smelling linalool, a substance in lemons, or even basil, juniper, or lavender can reduce the stress response.

ª Stretch. Lifting your arms or stretching your legs with a short walk will improve your circulation and flexibility.

ª Meditate. Take some deep breaths and turn your mind off daily tasks for a few minutes. (Better yet, pray and praise God.)

ª Keep a gratitude diary. Take a minute every day to write down several things you’re thankful for, whether they’re big or small things. Complaining brings negative energy. But being thankful can make you appreciate all the positives in your life and renew your energy.

ª Turn off your electronics. Log off your computer, ignore the phone and relax for a few minutes to renew your energy.

ª Prioritize.  Make a list and finish your most dreaded duties first to avoid the anxiety caused by procrastination.

SPIRITUAL: Right Thinking Leads to Useful Living

When we wash our hands to clean off the dirt and germs, we are not doing that without using soap and water. In the same way we do not have the power to “cleanse” ourselves from sin. We use the cleansing power provided by Jesus Christ, who died for us on the cross.  When we receive Christ, His death and resurrection sets us free from the penalty and power of sin. We can then say “no” to sinful desires and “yes” to right behavior, right belief, and right focus and be useful to God.           From 2 Timothy 2:20-22

As you wash your hands, remember the power Jesus has given you to clean up the sin in your life.
